The Next Hot Thing: Heat Therapy

Last month I attended my first NAIDEX exhibition; it's the biggest trade, professional and consumer event in Europe for people with a disability or impairment. I wrote all about my favourite stands here. I included ClickHeat in that post but promised a more in-depth look at their products. So, my friends, here's that post you've all been eagerly anticipating *wink face*

Mini High End Beauty Haul

New makeup, oh yeah! I popped into Milton Keynes last week with three items in mind. I'd seen them all over YouTube and featured on various blogs, and I just had to own them all. I guess you could say bloggers made me buy it.

#Toddlerlife Becomes #LittleManLife

Since the star of #Toddlerlife is now four, it's only appropriate I change the name of my series to #LittleManLife. I realise it's been absolutely ages since I shared a post in this series and I apologise, I'm shit, I know. But, if you've been waiting for it, or never seen a #Toddlerlife post before, here you go.

My First Love, The Ableist

Content Warning: Sex, ableism

I've been pondering about writing this post for a while and although I've wanted to get it out there, I was also really wary about reliving this period of my life as it wasn't the best. At the time, I thought it was perfect, I believed it was how relationships went and I didn't really know any different. Now, eleven years later, I know it wasn't right. Although looking back, there are moments I remember when I knew it was doomed from the start.

Lee Stafford Sea Salt Collection Review

I'm a massive fan of Lee Stafford and if a product claims to give me beachy, big hair, I'm 100% up for giving that a go. I've been using the CoCo LoCo collection for about a year, and still really love that but like switching things up and trying out new products...I am a blogger after all. Oh, if you fancy seeing my review of the dreamy CoCo LoCo stuff, click here.

Tropical Homeware Wish List

I adore homeware, I'd go as far as saying I'm addicted to looking at cute bedding and cushions. I'm pretty sure my boyfriend isn't appreciative of me constantly dragging him to home aisles in shops but he'll get over it. I'm also a huge fan of all things flamingo and tropical so the recent trend is right up my street. I love it all. I want it all.

A Positive Message For New Wheelchair Users

A few weeks ago I shared a post called 6 Acts of Kindness I'm Grateful For As A Disabled Person; in that I talked about a few lovely things that strangers had done for me that had really helped me out and made my day easier, brighter, better. At the end of that post, Caroline from Pots and Spoons left me a comment stating that she wished she'd found this post a few days previously as a lot of information that is put out into the world is about the stigma wheelchair users face. As much as that is true and very common, it's also terrifying for a new wheelchair user. Not only do they have to come to terms with using this new machine, but they also have to deal with how society perceives them.

Personalised Map Print from Betsy Benn

I love prints; I have three gallery walls in my tiny bungalow and I'm always buying more (prints not walls). I have this vision of our next house having two bedrooms, with one room my makeup room/office and cute, quirky prettiness hanging on the walls. Think Pinterest-worthy office - I want.

Spring Blush Edit

With the warmer weather making an appearance, it's that time I change up my makeup. Spring beauty to me is all about glowing, healthy skin, a bright lip and rosy cheeks. I tend to gravitate towards pink and peach tones for my blusher and love a cream formula, especially during Spring/Summer.

BookBeat: Audiobooks On Your Phone

Hi there, my name is Sarah and I like to devour books. I must admit, I love to be surrounded by books, I love buying books, I love the smell and stacking them on my bookshelf, however, I also finding holding a book difficult due to my disability. Not only that but I have trouble concentrating and would gladly have my boyfriend read to me, but it's not always top of his list. That's where BookBeat* comes in.

Favourites from NAIDEX 2017

Last Wednesday I spent the day at the NEC in Birmingham for the NAIDEX exhibition. It was my first time attending and I'll definitely be going again next year as I had such a good day. I met so many lovely people, saw amazing and innovative products, and spent the day rolling around it awe.

Swiss Clinic Skin Renewal Review

I think I love skincare just as much as makeup. Okay, a tad less, but even so, you have to take care of your skin for your makeup to apply flawlessly. My skin type is combination, I have the odd dry bits, oily T-zone and some scarring and pigmentation. I'm forever being told I have lovely skin but I beg to differ.

Portable Charging with Askborg

Is there anything more annoying than running out of battery? As most of you know, I spend a lot of time at home (#ChronicLife) so am always next to a plug socket but when I do go out, I despise running low on charge. That's when Askborg comes in to save the day.

I'm Not 'A Wheelchair'

Living with a disability means a whole concoction of things; yes, you actually have a disability (or a long list of them), and you find ways of adapting etc. But you also have to handle other people's views and comments (sometimes nasty and negative) on your condition. I could no doubt write a stupidly long post on what I've been told over the years about my illnesses by strangers/family/acquaintances, things that have annoyed me, that are misconceptions, or are plain rude. However I wanted to address this one thing.

March Favourites

March was a good month, I enjoyed it immensely. I went back up north for a week and spent time with my family; I hadn't seen them since my birthday in January so it was nice to spend a few days there. I also got to pick my 4 year old nephew up from nursery and loved it. When I got home I filmed something extremely exciting that you'll hear about in a few months, and yesterday I celebrated my four year anniversary with my boyfriend. All the busy. I hope your March was a good one.

Bow down to the March #Paperhaul box - it's absolutely bloody beautiful. I squealed so loudly when I opened it as the colours and design are right up my street.

6 Acts of Kindness I'm Grateful For As A Disabled Person

I'm first to call-out injustice, crap accessibility, ableism and ignorance. As a disabled person, I experience negativity a lot and it's really difficult. But I wanted to dedicate this post to the other side of that, I want to tip my hat and wheel spin to those people that are considerate, that do help disabled people, and are often overlooked.

The Body Shop All-In-One BB Cream and Instaglow CC Cream

I'm always on the hunt for a light base that I can slap on quickly and it give me enough coverage that I'm not looking like a corpse (#TeamNoSleep) or something that helps me feel a bit more put together. I have temperamental skin, it's either pretty decent or a train-wreck, and I'm not confident enough to leave the house completely barefaced but I also don't want to always wear a medium-full coverage base. So, when I was raiding The Body Shop a few weeks ago and came across these two products, I had to have them.

9 Works of Victorian Literature You Need to Read

Hi, my name is Sarah, and I love all things nineteenth century. I studied English at uni and during my second year I realised how much I loved Victorian literature so made that my focus for third year and my MA. You'll notice a theme of late-Victorian Gothic going on with a few of my recommendations as that's what floats my boat. So, here's some novels, short stories and collections from my favourite era that you need to read.

Worry Time: An Anxiety Technique

Six weeks ago I wrote an in-depth post on what I've learnt at CBT, and a lot of people seemed quite intrigued by Worry Time. So for anyone that wanted it, here's a much more detailed post on this technique.

Vincent Longo Cosmetics

I've only recently been introduced to Vincent Longo Cosmetics but the brand was founded in 1995 by celebrity makeup artist Vincent Longo. It's a luxury brand that is loved by beauty editors, models, actors and makeup artists. And *spoiler alert* this little beauty adoring blogger.

Trialling Glasses At Home and Buying Online with Glasses Direct

At the end of January I went for my routine two yearly eye test and shocker, my prescription had changed. I was expecting it but it was such a drastic change that I was told I'd need to have my lenses thinned, which added another chunk of money onto my already expensive frames. I'd not planned on that so couldn't afford them right away, and began panicking as I try to keep to a budget. I'd also been advised to have another eye test in a year instead of two, since the amended prescription was so extreme. This added to my 'I don't want to pay out loads of money for glasses I might have to change in a year,' dilemma. My best friend had previously bought from Glasses Direct, so when I got home, I got online and had a browse.

6 Sex Tips for Chronic Pain Sufferers

After writing about sex and disability a few weeks ago, I decided I was going to continue the conversation. You can read my other post here. Now, I'm no expert (or should I say 'sexpert'?) but I've lived with chronic pain for almost twenty years so thought I'd share some tips on having sex whilst suffering with chronic pain.

Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator Review

Ever keep hearing hype about a product and take a while to find out why everyone is raving about it? I swear every YouTuber I watch fell in love with Laura Geller's Baked Gelato highlighter in Gilded Honey when it was first released. Being Casper's paler sister, I can't wear gold, and although Ballerina is a lighter, it still seemed a tad too warm for me. But then came Charming Pink and all my prayers (I don't pray) were answered.

10 Things I Hate About You

All I can see is Heath Ledger dancing down those bleachers singing 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You'. Okay, now I'm swooning. I'm pretty sure I was more in love with him than Usher back in the day, and that's saying something.

BBC Three - Things Not To Say To People Who Use Wheelchairs

If you don't follow me on any of my social media platforms you might not have seen me raving on about how I was in a BBC Three short film. If you've not watched it, I urge you to go and do that now, I'll link it here but I've also embedded it down below.

February Favourites

I must admit, I've not worn a lot of makeup this month because I've been in a bad pain flare. And then my skin was awful, and to top it all off, the last two weeks I've had colossal cold sores. There's nothing more of a deterrent to cosmetics than a scabby face and mouth. But there's still a few new (and one not-so new) things I've had a little love affair with.

February #Paperhaul Subscription Box

Yesss, I love stationery delivery day. And February's box certainly didn't disappoint. I'm pretty sure it's one of my all-time favourite designs since signing up for the box last year.

Let's Get it On: Sex and Disability

Last weekend a journalist came to my house and interviewed me on what it's like having a sex life whilst disabled. We spent almost two hours discussing this subject that seems to be one of the most controversial and taboo topics when it comes to disability. Obviously I don't find it unmentionable, or I wouldn't be writing this or have been interviewed. But disability and sex seems to be that forbidden juxtaposition that nobody wants to think about, let alone talk about.

Top 10 Holy Grail Products featuring Mermaid in Disguise

Today is an exciting post as I'm writing this in collaboration with my wonderful twin (we were separated at birth a few years apart, don't question it), Beth from Mermaid in Disguise. Beth was one of my first spoonie blogger friends and we chat all day every day about absolutely nothing all things important (with Elle, of course).

I Put People Into Categories to Help My Mental Health

Valentine's Day Makeup Look

As much as I love makeup, I realised that I only usually feature it in reviews or hauls. So, I thought I'd actually create a look and show you what I came up with. And since it's Valentine's Day next week, what better time to paint my face.

Valentine's Gift Guide

As it's Valentine's Day next week I thought I'd make a gift guide for anyone that celebrates it and might be struggling with ideas on what to get that special someone in their life. I'll probably just end up getting my boyfriend a card, and maybe he can have a hug, I'll see how affectionate I'm feeling then. I joke, he can definitely have a cuddle.

January #Paperhaul Subscription Box

January's #Paperhaul box arrived earlier this week and I'd have had this to show you much earlier if I hadn't had a bit of an accident with my ankle. Anyway, this time the stationery subscription box is circus themed!

Talking About My Illness Doesn't Make Me Negative

'Behind every exquisite thing that existed, there was something tragic'
Oscar Wilde

The above quote will be tattooed on me someday. I love it and I love Oscar Wilde. I also thinks it rings true for my life, especially my illness. I don't see my disability as a tragedy or something awful now, but when I was growing up with chronic pain, I certainly felt like it was a death sentence. I didn't see any way of getting used to the agony and everything associated with my condition, I thought it'd hold me back (and it did for a while), and I wanted to be 'normal'.

January Favourites

Whaaa, how are we in February 2017? Scratch that, we're in 2017, I don't know about you but even typing that seems weird. So, January run-down, the main thing - I turned 30. Yeah, I know, I only look 22 right? Is that a push? Anyway, I digress, January was extremely exciting. Other than my birthday and my family visiting, I filmed something with BBC3 (I'll tell you about that another time) and I got all my paperwork ready to move back up north! Yesss.

10 Things You Might Not Know About Me

I'm going to treat this post as if you're a regular reader to my blog and know bits about me, so I'm not going to share the usual where I'm from, how many siblings I have, kinda thing. Hopefully I won't bore you to tears but if I do, go read one of my more interesting posts *wink*

What I've Learnt At CBT So Far

I apologise in advance as this is probably going to be a long one.

I've been going to CBT for a while now and I can honestly say that it is working for me. I've tried various talking therapies in the past and they've not really been what I expected or helped me in any way, but I was much younger and I have a feeling I might not have been as open back then. I'm totally not saying if you're young you're not open or therapy won't work for you, I'm speaking from personal experience and recalling my 'Sarah knows best' attitude. I guess what didn't help last time was that I was made to go instead of wanting.

Make Up For Ever Pro Light Fusion Highlighter Review

I treated myself to this when I ordered the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette as I'd wanted it for a while and I'm all about that glow. As soon as it arrived I swatched it on the back of my hand and wasn't disappointed.

What I Got for My 30th Birthday

If you missed it, I turned 30 almost two weeks ago and despite not being over the moon about ticking a higher age range on questionnaires, I don't feel any different. I had a really lovely birthday - I celebrated it on the actual day (Thursday) with my boyfriend, and then my family came to visit that weekend. They were supposed to arrive on Saturday morning but late afternoon on Friday there was a knock on my door and my Mum, Pops and nephew showed up early to surprise me. I was close to tears as I was over the moon to have them stay for longer; I hadn't seen them since the beginning of November.

Shadow Switch Dry Brush Cleaner Review

The Shadow Switch has been popping up all over social media lately, and I've seen countless blog posts about it so I needed to give it a go to see what all the hype was about. I'm all for jumping on a bandwagon and I have to admit was pretty cynical about this product so had to test it for myself.

Book and Candle Haul

It's been an absolute age since I did a haul so obviously it was about time I rectified this. My parents gave me my birthday money early and I got a few vouchers for Christmas so went a tad wild on the candle and book front.

30 Things My Chronic Illness Has Taught Me

Well, I'm 30 now guys, I officially left my twenties behind yesterday and wheeled right into my dirty thirties. I don't feel any different and I'm constantly told I don't look my age, so I have nothing to complain about. I'll be celebrating my birthday this weekend when my parents come to visit with my 4 year old nephew, and I can't wait.

Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette Review

Oh my days, I can't tell you how annoyed I was that I missed this palette when it was released as a limited edition product last year. But when I found out it would be making a comeback, the joy was real. Too Faced has released a Sweet Peach collection alongside this palette but it's not yet out in the UK and all I really wanted was the palette which is currently available in Debenhams, so I got that, and the rest of the collection should be out mid-January - so keep a look-out if you're after the glosses, blusher and/or glow palette.

30 Things in 30 Years

It's my 30th birthday on Thursday; I've mentioned it a lot on Twitter, probably too much, but if you don't follow me over there you might not know that your girl is soon to be leaving her twenties behind and opening up the next chapter of her life.

I Booked Assistance, Assist Me: Travelling via Train as a Wheelchair User

During this last week there has been a lot of press about travelling via public transport (mainly trains) as a disabled person, and how difficult, stressful, and downright disgusting the service is. Check out Sam Renke's interview with The Guardian here; Sam was barricaded into the wheelchair space by luggage and unable to move to access the toilet. Also, Paralympian Anne Wafula's story here; she was forced to wet herself as there was no accessible toilet available on the train she travelled on. I don't even have any words; it's just so wrong.

Best of Beauty 2016

It took me literally a minute to decide what my beauty favourites were for 2016. I went drawer by drawer of my makeup tall-boy and instantly grabbed the products that I constantly went back to and showed a lot of love to. Some of them I only picked up or started using towards the end of the year but they had to be added because the passion was already very strong.
