Lipstick vs Liquid Lipstick: The Bright Edition

I have A LOT of lipsticks, I won't bother putting a number on it because I can't be bothered counting them and in all honesty, I don't want to know.

With the boom of brands coming out with liquid lipsticks, my liquid collection is slowly growing into a haven of beautifulness and it's difficult to choose whether I want a matte, stay all day lip or a moisturising, glossy lipstick. Obviously some lipsticks are much more long-wearing than others and some liquid lipsticks are transferable but let's pretend we live in an ideal world...

So, Lipstick or Liquid Lipstick?

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick - Beloved | $20 | Link |

Amalfi - Bright pink coral
Venezia - Bright red orange
Beloved - Soft coral
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Stila and Kat Von D are my all-time favourite liquid lipstick formula, hands down, I love them; read why I think they're incredible | here |

I tend to wear a liquid lipstick if I'm going out for a meal so I don't end up with that weird coloured line on my chin after eating or absolutely no colour on my lips. A liquid lipstick is also perfect if you're on the go all day and don't have time to retouch your lippy.

A bright liquid lippy is so much easier to wear than a lipstick as the opacity doesn't wear off, the initial colour you applied in the morning is still there later on and you don't end up with only a line of colour remaining around the edge of your lips (unless you eat greasy food). You can also have a good smooch and you be the only person wearing lipstick.

Gerard Cosmetics Lipstick - Tequila Sunrise | £11.50 | Link |

Mac Lipstick - Impassioned | £15.50 | Link |

Greta - Coral red
Tequila Sunrise - Peachy coral
Impassioned - Fuchsia

I'll forever love lipstick and Nars Audacious is bloody marvellous (I'll do an updated collection soon), so creamy, pigmented and hydrating. You can read all about my love for Nars Audacious | here |
Other than a matte lipstick, the majority of traditional lipsticks are not drying as they're not meant to stay on for hours like a liquid and we're used to reapplying throughout the day.

I have many more nude lipsticks than brights as I always worry that I'll end up with the bright colour all over my face (I don't know how, I don't rub my face, but you know...) and on a daily basis, nude is more wearable.

A hydrating lipstick is always top choice when my lips are particularly chapped and a vibrant colour is essential for the summer months, not that we've had much summer in the UK; so I've added a few vivid shades to my collection this year.

Quick tip: A mirror is essential when applying a bright lipstick as is a lip liner as it gives you a guide to follow.

As you can probably tell, I'm a fan of all variations of coral lipsticks, I think they suit my skin tone and the contrast of my porcelain skin and a pop of colour on the lips looks lovely. I always receive compliments when wearing these colours.

Drum roll please, the winner is: Liquid Lipstick - vibrant, bright liquid lipsticks are easier to wear, don't bleed or feather, can be retouched if needed, last all day and keep their full opacity.

Which do you prefer?

  1. I'm all about the traditional when it comes to lipstick. I'm an old stickler :p
I'm a messy girl so liquid just gets everywhere and don't even add gloss into the equation, jeeez.
